Final day of the Tata IPL 2023 which got washed out due to rain and it got rescheduled to the next day that is 29th May 2023 & all of a sudden cricketer Ambati Rayudu announced his retirement and I fervently rooted for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to win the trophy. As a dedicated supporter of CSK, ranking those second only to the Mumbai Indians, I was determined to witness their triumphant victory. The uncertainty of Dhoni’s participation did not waver my resolve, but one thing was certain: Ambati would no longer grace the team, and I yearned for him to receive a befitting farewell.
Since the early days of the Indian Premier League (IPL), I have closely observed and admired Ambati Rayudu. I vividly remember an instance when Sachin Tendulkar lauded him during a match and graciously shared his Man of the Match award. Time and again, I have marveled at Ambati’s exceptional performances alongside Pollard in the middle order. It genuinely disheartened me when Mumbai dropped such a talented player from their squad. Consequently, my joy knew no bounds when he joined Chennai, as it seemed like the perfect move for a player of Ambati’s caliber. Yesterday, he proudly lifted his sixth IPL trophy, a truly well-deserved achievement.
During the trophy presentation, Dhoni called Jadeja and Rayudu onto the stage. He touched the trophy briefly but then insisted that they lift it. This act of Dhoni holds immeasurable significance as a display of appreciation for Rayudu. It must have been an incredibly precious moment for Ambati.
While the world rightfully applauds Dhoni for his leadership and exceptional skills as a player, there are often unsung heroes who go unnoticed. Thus, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the backbone of the middle order in the IPL. Rayudu, thank you for always giving your best. Your absence will be deeply felt, and I will truly miss you.
